Make Your Spring Cleaning a Breeze

These cleaning hacks will make your life easier

Spring has sprung and a homeowner’s fancy turns to thoughts of…spring cleaning? It may not be as exciting as love, but spring is a time many choose to tackle tough cleaning tasks before summer holidays begin. However, it doesn’t have to onerous with some hacks that can make spring cleaning a breeze:

Bathing beauty
It’s time to give some TLC to the most essential room in the house. Here’s how to make your bathroom sparkle without all the hard scrubbing: Put some white vinegar in a bag that fastens over your shower head and let it soak for a few hours. The vinegar will remove the mineral deposits that build up and clog the jets. Remove the stubborn bathtub ring by scrubbing it with a half grapefruit sprinkled in rock salt. Use duct tape to seal the toilet bowl syphons and pour white vinegar in the tank. When the toilet is flushed the vinegar will stay in the rim, where overnight it will strip away the grime.

Living large
Lamp shades throughout the living space can be a magnet for dust and dirt. Use a lint roller to clean them thoroughly and easily. Pesky carpet stains will come clean with a dose of hard liquor. Vodka can be sprayed onto a stain and then blotted with a dry cloth to remove the stain.

Fashion passion
Lipstick and oil stains have consigned many a shirt to the rubbish heap. Save your favourite item by spraying hairspray on a lipstick stain and applying chalk for oil. Leave the hairspray for 15 minutes, then dip in warm water and wipe the lipstick off. Chalk absorbs oil, so persistently rub it on the stain and brush it off and launder as usual. Chalk can also help with ring-around-the-collar.
