Royal LePage Kelowna Real Estate Report for December 2022
Creating a "home" is different than simply owning a house. The holidays are an ideal time to pause and reflect upon how you can truly create a sense of 'home' with the space you have. This is both physical and emotional. A central feature of creating a "home" is the mood created in the space but also the heart expression of the people within it. "Home" involves sentiment, comfort, and safety, which begin within:
Christmas and the holiday season can be an opportunity to pull oneself back from the busyness of work and reflect on what's meaningful to you, including friends and family. This isn't an easy task to many. Painful memories and strained relationships can make the holidays a challenge. But by stopping to reflect and intentionally making a space where you feel at "home", both in your house, and in your heart, contentment may be closer than you think.
Consider clearing out both physical and emotional clutter. Purge your closets and counters of old things you don't use or don't like. Think about the burdens you carry relationally. Who can you forgive or apologize to? Consider taking the higher road and sending a greeting card of well wishes. It may just move you towards a sense of harmony, reconciliation and peace that are central in the experience of "home".
With your newfound space, you can reflect on who/what you desire in your life. Add to your environment what is meaningful to you: decorations with symbolic meaning, an art piece that brings you special joy, pictures of those you care for. Consider reaching out and inviting people to share the space both in your house, and in your heart. Then you will truly have made a "home" for the holidays.
